The Big Idea: Where it all begins

Where It all begins - world map

Hi. I’m Mark Orr. Welcome to Assembli.net – the place where we aim to spark a movement of hope and compassion within the Christian community, so big and yet local, so far-reaching and yet personal, so intelligent and yet simple… a movement that is entirely possible, and involves you at the very core.

We believe that we can change the world. And therefore, we must! We believe there are practical steps that can be taken to see dramatic change in the near future.

This change is not a given… not guaranteed. If it was, we wouldn’t need to do anything. But if enough of us participate, and commit to do our part, a simple, reasonable, doable part… then it can happen.

At the heart of the vision are three inter-woven elements. Each element is a worthy goal in itself, but together, they form the key to the movement – and the commitment to create sustainable, enduring change to the things that break the heart of God.

The first is to identify people with ideas and imagination, passion for change, and a dissatisfaction with the current situation in their communities, villages, and nations. From teenagers, to professionals, to grandparents – we believe there is a vast hidden group of people wanting to act, but not sure where to start. The movement aims to find and connect 1 million of these people within the next 3 to 4 years.

Second, is to identify helpers. No leader with an idea can be successful alone. Helpers are those who come around and support others with ideas. Helpers can contribute skills, prayer, money, knowledge, relationships, and materials. The movement aims to mobilize 10 million helpers within the next 3 to 4 years. The challenge is to connect the right resources to the right needs – at scale, across the world, in a fun and engaging way. This is where element three comes in.

Element three is a platform – a backbone bottom up structure that enables people with ideas to come together with people with resources, and implement those ideas in a fun, social, and effective way. Various tools and systems are needed to do this. It will all come together in a very sophisticated app called Assembli. Future blog posts will give peeks into what we have in mind. You will also be able to give suggestions to improve design and functionality.

Friends, we are at a place in history where more than ever before, we have the tools, opportunities, people, and knowledge to create change. There is no reason for doom and gloom, unless we do nothing. The onus is on us to get to work. We have every reason to have hope. Let’s act on it.

In the next few blogs posts, we will spell out for you the plan, step by step, showing how you can play simple but meaningful role in the plan. And remember, we are not talking about eventual, distant change… but change that can, and will begin to happen in dramatic ways as soon as we start. And it starts with you prayerfully taking this to heart now.
